Christina Beahan was born in Philadelphia, PA. Her mother, a Photography Professor, taught her to process film and develop prints in their basement darkroom as a child. It is only more recently, however, that Christina has dedicated herself to thinking about how she can use the power of imagery to bring attention to stories and issues that are important to her. She holds a BA from Guilford College in Anthropology and International Studies and an Associate Degree in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Christina worked as a Textile Designer for almost twenty years before changing her focus to Photography and Social Justice. Her desire to make images stems mostly from the inequities and inequalities she sees in society. As a white mother to a black son, her family is often at the center of her work, as they face society’s challenges together. Christina focuses on issues around race, gender, equality, cultural bias, equity, and visibility.
